And she’s offering the hunter Paxton Seabolt power and acceptance he could never receive in his homeland. Pax must decide how far he’s willing to go under her tutelage, knowing she is the opponent of Princess Aerity Lochson. In a land where traditionalists dread change, the Lochlan throne must contend with mysterious foes and traitors, while attempting to keep revolt at bay. As dire circumstances strike the royal family, matters of the castle are left in Aerity’s hands. It's time to put aside her fears and grasp the reign, taking actions that have the potential to save or destroy her people. One hunt has ended, but the pursuit for love and justice continue. In this sequel to The Great Hunt from New York Times bestselling author Wendy Higgins, political intrigue and romance intensify in another thrilling fantasy. Princess Aerity embraces a quest for identity and passion before making the ultimate sacrifice for her kingdom. Note: This review won't contain any spoilers for The Great Pursuit but it will for The Great Hunt. My thoughts:
The Great Pursuit is the second and final installment in the Eurona duology written by Wendy Higgins, author of Sweet Evil. I enjoyed The Great Pursuit a bit more than The Great Hunt, to me the plot had a lot more action to it and I really liked the story line. I absolutely loved The Brothers Grimm as a child and I think this duology is a very good spin-off of it. I love Wendy''s work and definitely wasn't disappointed! Aerity goes through a lot of hardships in this book dealing with all the evil her and her kingdom through due to Rozaria Rocato. Not to mention that the one she loves is not the one she could be with. She and her parents try their best to appease both the enemy and the kingdom but doing so isn't an easy task. They have to post-pone the inevitable war to the best of their abilities. Aerity is forced to marry a young lord who's eye's like to linger, which makes things harder on her since she doesn't want to marry him in the first place. I thought it was great that we got third-person POV's in this books because with all that was going on I really enjoyed seeing the different perspectives from the other characters. I actually liked the villain that Rozaria portrayed in this story. Most of what I heard is people don't enjoy her character because of how creepy she is but that is precisely what I like about her. That creepy, seductive, and possessive character she is is precisely what makes her great. The way she creates her beasts are sad and morbid but I enjoy the beasts and how we get to see different sides of them in this book. After the great hunt Paxton was forced to leave. He didn't kill the beast or gain Aerity''s hand in marriage and we also found out he is lashed. Pax leaving breaks both his and Aerity's heart but they know it's the right thing to do for his safely. Pax becomes a different person in this book and despite the fact he leaves the kingdom he is always doing things in Aerity's best interest which I really enjoy especially since Leif is such a douche-canoe. Towards the end of this book we really see some character development from Leif that I didn't think possible! Pax comes across Rozaria who offers him a tempting deal when she takes over the lands but he see's it as an opportunity to gain the enemy's trust and obtain information to aid Princess Aerity. The only thing that I really wish happened in this book is that I wish we had more time with Tiern and Vixie towards the end because they''re so cute together! One thing that I'm sure you readers will be happy to know is that this book is action-packed and ends happily! Wendy wrapped this up so nicely and I recommend this fun read to everyone!
